DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
This story ties to this large umbrella feeling of being an outsider, a multifaceted feeling of alienation. In our world, people feel excluded because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economics, or simply having interests or talents not shared by the mainstream. In this story, stretching across time, Miles is too smart for his own good. It has simultaneously given him the opportunity to be at an elite school and to be excluded from it. Emily’sjournal becomes one of the few connections he has to others despite its mysterious provenance. It is likely Miles is the only one who can figure out the journal's meaning and save his school.
